UPUM, an acronym for University of Malaya Consultancy Unit, was established in June 1992. UPUM was established, under the purview of the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Research and Innovation). It is a self-financing unit, which supports the salary of most of its staff and overhead costs. Hence, UPUM is a one-stop center that offers the University staff consultancy expertise, to government and private sectors. UPUM coordinates inter-disciplinary consultancy work
s carried out by UM staff from the various faculties. Its formation enables a more professional service, which will also oversee all legal and commercial requirements and liabilities. University of Malaya is the premier established University in Malaysia, equipped with sufficient competent academic and professional supporting staff, as well as well- equipped laboratories and computing facilities. Therefore, it is in a position to offer excellent consultancy services to industry thus benefiting the whole nation.
